Question
How do I control my lock remotely? Why can't I control my lock from far away?
Answer
Our locks use bluetooth to communicate with the Sifely Smart Lock app on your smartphone for most actions (unlocking, passcode editing, adding fingerprints, etc).
You can control the lock remotely if the Sifely Gateway is set up near the lock.
What is the Sifely Gateway?
The Sifely Gateway is a separate device that acts as a bridge for our locks. It allows our lock to communicate via wifi in addition to Bluetooth. The Sifely Gateway needs to be installed near the lock.

What does this mean?
If the Sifely Gateway is set up near the lock, you are able to perform remote actions such as:
- Update unlock records remotely.
- Edit or delete passcodes remotely.
- Create Custom passcodes remotely.
- Receive unlock notifications remotely.
- Connect the lock to Alexa or Google Home integrations.
If you are remotely managing a lock in California, and you live in Florida, you are able to do the above actions and more if the Sifely Gateway is set up near the lock.
I have a gateway, but I am not sure if it connected.
Take a look at this checklist.
