Question:
How do I find out whether I have a 2.4 GHz or a 5 GHz Wifi network?
Answer:
Most routers have a dual-band Wi-Fi network that supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks. Since the Sifely Gateway is specifically compatible with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks, this article will help determine its compatibility with your network.
Locate the name of your Wi-Fi network using your smartphone or laptop.
One way to tell is in the network name (SSID). If the SSID ends in a 2, a 5, or nothing.
If it ends in nothing or a 2G, then the network is 2.4GHz
If it ends in 5G, then the network is 5GHz
Example:
MyHomeNetwork
MyHomeNetwork-2G
MyHomeNetwork-5G
Step 1: Connect your phone to the available wifi network.
Step 2: Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Network details. Check the frequency band connected network to see if you are connected to a 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi network. Note: Different Android phones might have different settings.
Using a computer
Step 1: Connect your computer to the Wi-Fi network. On your taskbar, click the Wi-Fi icon at the r
bottom right of your computer screen taskbar, or go to Windows settings > Network and Internet.
Step 2: Click the Properties button on your connected Wi-Fi network.
Step 3: Once you are in the network properties, you can check if the network band is 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi network. (Note: Different versions of Windows might appear different than depicted above)
Important Note: All Sifely Smart lock Products need a Sifely Gateway (sometimes referred to as a bridge) when connecting to Wi-Fi networks.
The Sifely Gateway is available on our Amazon site: Purchase a Sifely Gateway
